Baby J Can Run

The Universe — October 2012

Time is running out with 13:43 left on the clock. Down 7-24; BYU has to score. The ball is snapped. Bodies, pads, helmets crash together.

Jamaal Williams takes a pitch from Taysom Hill, rolls to his left, dodges a defender, collides with three more defenders and somehow finds himself in the end zone. Touchdown.

Troopers rally, stun Wheatland with 13-run comeback

The Sheridan Press — June 2012

It started as a bright, sunny day and a 7-4 game one win for the Sheridan Troopers Sunday afternoon against the visiting Wheatland Lobos. Soon, however, the cold and wind came and along with it, a turn of the tides as the Troopers found themselves on the verge of a 10-run mercy rule to end game two.

Forget the big city: Move to North Dakota

The Universe — Feburary 2014

College students often dream of landing a high-paying job on Wall Street, of occupying a corner office in Silicon Valley, of taking the streets of D.C. by storm or of working for a glamorous company in a glamorous city.

But is moving to “glamorous” cities like Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City or Washington, D.C., the smartest thing for young professionals to do?

Never asking 'why me'

The Sheridan Press — May 2012

Former Marine turned screenwriter William Boyles Jr. once said, "'Why me?' That is the soldier's first question, asked each morning as the patrols go out and each evening as the night settles around the foxholes."

But the question of 'why me?' seems to be the last thing on the mind of Eric Trueblood, whose life was changed drastically on July 20, 2011.

Home-grown western music

The Sheridan Press — July 2012

There are over 100 million videos on YouTube. Music videos. Sports highlight tapes. Movie clips. Parodies. Newscasts. Commercials. Hours upon hours of video.

If you look hard enough — or perhaps are just lucky enough to stumble upon them by accident — you will find songs describing "a mile marker for every dream that don't come true," "having fun getting lost along the way," and "moving like the horses do."

Local lawmakers say gun control now only issue

The Sheridan Press — January 2013

In the wake of the tragic Dec. 14 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, many people are calling for gun control reform and tightened regulations on both the state and federal level.

...

Wyoming, however, might be moving in the opposite direction as representative Tom Lubnau, R-Gillette, is drafting legislation that, if passed, would put an end to gun-free zones in government buildings. Further, the bill would allow administrators and teachers to have guns in schools.

BYU splits matches with UCLA (controversial call)

The Universe — April 2012

The No. 4 men's volleyball team went into the weekend's road games against No. 3 UCLA with a mission: to win the MPSF conference title.

The task did not prove to be an easy one, as the Cougars won a tough five-set match on Friday night and lost in a quick three-set match on Saturday.

Barrasso addresses dentists: Senator expresses concern over health care law

The Sheridan Press — June 2012

SHERIDAN — U.S. Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., paid a visit to Sheridan Saturday as he spoke at the 96th Annual Wyoming Dental Association Convention at the Holiday Inn.

Barrasso addressed about 125 dental professionals from around the state and took questions from the audience, much of which centered around the health care bill currently being debated in the U.S. Supreme Court.
